Camberwell

Camberwell has been promised the Underground on and off since the 1930s, and it still gets about by bus. That is roughly how London has always treated it. Two of its stations shut "temporarily" in 1916 and are presumably still thinking it over. Meanwhile the art students moved in, the Georgian squares got expensive, and the place got good without anybody in charge noticing, which is the most south London thing about it.
