Burghfield Common
Burghfield Common was named after the common land it was built on, which is still the most honest piece of branding in West Berkshire. It is a commuter dormitory that still answers to "village", picked by people who wanted Reading's wages without Reading's postcode and now earn them from the spare bedroom. The gravel diggers turned the parish's Bronze Age burial mounds into sailing lakes, so the housebuilders can't be called the least sentimental arrivals. The low bridges keep the lorries out, and on the evidence that counts as the local planning policy.
