Mortimer
Mortimer is a village that spent the post-war decades turning into a Reading suburb and would prefer nobody mentioned it. The Romans built an entire walled town down the road at Silchester and left it to the fields; Mortimer built bungalows and a railway station, and is outlasting them comfortably. The listed waiting room on the platform is the heritage people point at, which tells you what the housing looks like. Buyers arrive for the countryside and spend the first month timing how fast the train gets them out of it.
