Bransgore
Bransgore is a village that spent two centuries insisting it was named after brains and blood from a battle with the Danes, right up until someone checked and found it means a triangular field. That is Bransgore in one go: a place with a good story about itself that turns out to be a bit of land with hedges on it. The Victorians loved the version with the gore so much they got it printed on Ordnance Survey maps, which is the local approach to reality in miniature. What it actually offers is horses, quiet, and two eighteenth-century pubs that have outlasted every idea anyone has had about the place.
