Blandford Forum

A Georgian town square that survived everything except Tuesday·Dorset·South West England

Blandford Forum burned to the ground in 1731 and came back better looking, which is the sort of luck most towns would kill for and most towns wouldn't have the sense to spend on decent Georgian brickwork. The Bastard brothers rebuilt the place with a straight face and a market square, and the result is a town centre so intact that the surprise is finding a Tesco in it at all. It sits in a bend of the Stour between two protected chalk landscapes, which is another way of saying nobody is going to be allowed to ruin it, and the people who live there know exactly how that affects the asking price. Bring a fondness for the Thursday market and a tolerance for being thirteen miles from anything, and it works.
