What are the schools like in Wembley Park?

For anyone buying or renting in Wembley Park.

Wembley Park's schools are very good, and the borough around them is better still. The primaries get good maths results. The secondaries do well at the end of school too. Almost every school the inspectors have graded in the borough is good or better. On this question, a buyer here has less to worry about than on most others.

There are nine state primary schools in the area, and in the end-of-primary maths tests their pupils average a score of about 107, comfortably above the level the government sets as the expected standard. The names include Wembley Primary School, Oakington Manor Primary School and Preston Park Primary School, the last two in Preston, on the northern side. Wembley Primary School is one of the few places round here with Wembley in its name that has never needed a turnstile.

The four state secondary schools in the area have an Attainment 8 score of about 52, weighted by the number of pupils at each school. That score measures results across eight subjects at the end of school, and one strong year group can move it. Preston Manor School and Michaela Community School are both on the list, and Ark Elvin Academy is nearby. For a district that is mostly new flats, there is a good deal of secondary choice within reach.

Across the London Borough of Brent, Ofsted has graded 39 of 42 schools good or better, which is almost all of them. Ten are outstanding, two require improvement and one is rated inadequate. Another 39 settings in the borough have no published grade yet. Those figures cover all of Brent, and Brent's admissions rules decide who gets a place, so living in sight of Preston Manor's gates does not secure one, however the location gets described. Ask Brent Council how far from each school the last place was offered in recent years, because that distance moves from year to year and is the number that decides most applications. The borough's three weak schools get far more attention from worried parents than the other thirty-nine combined.

Schools are one of Wembley Park's real strengths. They are good enough that the hard part for most families is getting a place, not finding a good school.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
