South Tottenham's schools are stronger than almost anything else in the neighbourhood, and the primaries are the best of them. Across the borough, all but one of the schools with a published inspection grade are good or better. The local primaries post solid maths results. The two secondaries have a harder intake and their results reflect it. People who judge this neighbourhood on its crime figures rarely get as far as checking the schools.
There are 12 mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils average 105 on the Key Stage 2 maths measure. West Green Primary School shares its name with the West Green part of this page, and St Ann's CE Primary School, Welbourne Primary School and Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane are among the others. Haringey Council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so living near any of these schools does not secure a place, and church schools such as St Ann's have their own criteria on top. The council publishes how far away the last child offered a place lived, school by school, and that distance for your shortlist is the most useful number to look up. Most homes here are within a short walk of at least one primary, so choosing the school takes much longer than getting there.
At secondary there are two mainstream state schools in the area, Gladesmore Community School and Park View School. Their pupils averaged an Attainment 8 score of about 42, the government measure that combines results across a pupil's best eight GCSE subjects. With only two schools, that average mostly reflects those two schools in that one year. Parents who spent the primary years relaxed tend to start reading Year 7 admissions criteria quite closely once their child reaches Year 5.
Across Haringey, Ofsted has graded 36 schools and settings, and 35 of them are good or better, which is all but one. Sixteen are outstanding, one requires improvement and none is inadequate. Another 37 settings across Haringey have no published overall grade yet. They are ungraded, and that says nothing about their quality.
Schools are where South Tottenham is clearly at its best, and for a family moving in they are one of the strongest reasons to choose it.
