What's the area around Shepperton Green like?

For anyone buying or renting in Shepperton Green.

Shepperton Green is a suburb that runs into water wherever you walk. A park is a few minutes away. Lakes and river channels are even closer. The local high street is small. You get plenty of outdoors and not much in the way of going out.

Green space is close. On average, the nearest park or open space is about 236 metres from a Shepperton Green home, and there are about nine within a kilometre. Plenty of children here can reach a park before they've finished complaining about the walk.

Water is closer still. The nearest stretch of water is about 226 metres away on average, and about 29 bodies of water lie within a kilometre. With that many, the houses look like they were fitted in around the water.

Cycling routes are further off. The nearest stretch of the National Cycle Network is about 1.3 kilometres away on average, and no postcode in Shepperton Green is close to it. Any ride here starts on an ordinary road. There is no ancient woodland in the area either.

Across the wider postcode district, company-owned property titles include 93 shops, 10 pubs and 4 restaurants. That count covers more than Shepperton Green itself and only includes property held by companies. Even so, it shows what kind of place this is. Shops outnumber restaurants by a long way, and for a meal out you head somewhere else.

For air quality, fine-particle pollution across Spelthorne averaged about 7.9 micrograms per cubic metre in 2024. That figure covers the whole borough.

Nearby place names tell you what the surroundings are like. There are islands and river spots such as Pharaoh's Island, Lock Island, Hamhaugh Island and Penton Hook. There are open riverside spaces such as Chertsey Meads, and Kempton Park sits a short way off. Littleton and Sunbury-on-Thames are the neighbours on either side. Half the map is boating trips, and the other half is suburbs.

Private gardens add a lot to the outdoor space. Across Shepperton Green's four neighbourhood areas, gardens cover about 93,000 square metres for every 1,000 residents. Post-war semis came with back gardens, and a fair amount of the local green space is behind fences.

Business premises are thin on the ground. The valuation list records 21 rateable premises in Shepperton Green. The biggest single group, 10 of them, are shops, and the rest come in ones and twos across other uses. These are premises on the rating list, not a count of businesses open today. There isn't much of a high street.

Food hygiene is good. Of the 15 food businesses with a published rating, 80% hold the top score and none rates poorly. With so few places to eat, that comes to a handful of kitchens, and they keep them clean.

No landscape designation covers Shepperton Green. There is no area of outstanding natural beauty, no site of special scientific interest and no ancient woodland. All the river scenery here comes without any official protection.

The surroundings are one of Shepperton Green's strengths. Parks and water are a short walk from almost every door, even if a night out means going somewhere else.
