Is Shepperton Green a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Shepperton Green.

Yes. Shepperton Green is one of the calmer corners of Spelthorne. Crime runs about a third below the borough rate. Very few people are out of work. Overcrowded homes are rare. Most of the local drama comes from planning applications.

Surrey Police recorded 378 crimes in Shepperton Green in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, a published rate of about 61 per 1,000 people. That is roughly 33% below the average for Spelthorne as a whole. The published rate uses its own population base, so it won't exactly match a sum done with any other headcount.

Side by side, the two rates are about 61 per 1,000 in Shepperton Green and about 91 per 1,000 across Spelthorne over the same twelve months. Whatever pushes the borough rate up mostly happens somewhere else in Spelthorne.

Shepperton Green is a suburb of about 3,100 people per square kilometre, settled family housing with no town-centre crowds. At the 2021 census, unemployment was about 2% and about 4% of households were overcrowded. That makes it a stable, comfortably housed place, which is consistent with the lower rate without being the reason for it. On these numbers, the local crime wave is a delivery van parked across someone's drive.

The mix comes with a warning. The totals are small enough that a few incidents can move a share by several points, so it describes the last twelve months and nothing more lasting. Violence and sexual offences made up about 31% of crimes here, against about 35% nationally. That category is broad and includes common assault where nobody was hurt. Anti-social behaviour was about 18%, against 16% nationally. Public order was about 9% against 7%, criminal damage and arson about 8% against 7%, and other theft about 7%, the same as nationally. Drugs offences stand out at about 10%, against 4% nationally. Drug crime is mostly recorded when officers find it, so on a base this small the share follows police activity as closely as anything else. To get a feel for a particular street, look at the Police.uk crime map for the last few months around it. A share built on a few hundred crimes can be moved by a handful of them.

Getting a result after a report is a force-wide matter. Surrey Police charges a suspect in about 11% of cases, against about 12% nationally, and comes 30th of the 42 forces on that measure. About 36% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those figures cover the whole of Surrey and measure what happens after a crime, not how often crime happens here. In Shepperton Green, there is simply less crime for that process to deal with.

Safety is Shepperton Green's strongest point. It has well under the borough's crime rate and very little sign of the conditions that usually produce more.
