The schools are one of Shepperton Green's best arguments. Surrey's schools are overwhelmingly rated good. A primary is a short walk from most front doors. The secondary needs a bus or a lift. The only weak spot is the distance to secondary school.
Of the 159 Surrey settings with a published Ofsted grade, 147 are rated good or outstanding, which is roughly nine in every ten. Thirty are outstanding. At the other end, 7 require improvement and 5 are inadequate. Those counts cover all of Surrey, from Shepperton Green to the far side of the county, so they describe the system local families use, not one particular school. Another 194 Surrey settings have no published grade yet. That is a gap in the inspection record and says nothing about quality either way.
At primary level, Saxon Primary School, St Nicholas CofE Primary School and Littleton CofE Infant School are the names in the area. Places at all of them are allocated under published admissions rules, and living close to one does not by itself secure a place. The two Church of England schools can also set their own oversubscription criteria on top of distance. Check the admissions arrangements for the specific school with Surrey County Council and the school itself, and look at how far away the last child admitted last year lived. Distance is where most families actually get filtered out. In the Department for Transport's 2019 modelling, the nearest primary is about 10 minutes' walk from Shepperton Green, or 7 minutes by car. Most children here can walk to primary school.
Secondary school takes longer to get to. Thamesmead School is the local secondary, and on the same 2019 model the nearest secondary is about 29 minutes on foot, 20 by public transport and 11 by car. Those public transport times may well have changed since the model was run. In theory a half-hour walk does a twelve-year-old good, and in practice it usually turns into a lift. Halliford School and Manor Mead School are also nearby, for families whose needs or budgets point somewhere other than the mainstream state route.
That suits who lives here. At the 2021 census, about 24% of Shepperton Green's households were couples with dependent children, and another 10% were lone parents. Plenty of families here are working through these admissions rules at any one time.
Schools are one of Shepperton Green's clearest strengths. The county's record is strong, the primaries are within walking distance, and the only real catch is the trip to secondary.
