Is Sharpness, Gloucestershire a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Sharpness, Gloucestershire.

Sharpness is about as safe as the rest of Stroud district, no more and no less. Its crime rate is a shade under the district's. A few dozen crimes a year are recorded here. Work is easy to find and homes are not crowded. Charging rates are the weak spot, and that is down to the county force as a whole, not this village.

Police figures for the year to May 2026 recorded 71 crimes in the area around Sharpness, a published rate of about 44 per 1,000 residents. That is roughly 4% below the average for Stroud district. With only 71 crimes in a year, a few more or fewer would wipe out that gap. The numbers are too small to show a trend, and a small year does not prove a safe village any more than a bad one proves a dangerous one.

Across Stroud district as a whole, the published rate for the same year was about 46 crimes per 1,000 residents, against about 44 here. The two figures are close.

The area averages about 535 people per square kilometre. That is a village with a working dock. Unemployment is about 2%, and about 2% of households are overcrowded. None of these causes crime or prevents it. They describe the kind of place: people mostly in work, houses with room, and a dock that runs at its own pace.

Gloucestershire Constabulary charges a suspect in about 9% of cases, against about 12% nationally. That puts it 39th of 42 forces. About 33% of its cases are closed with nobody identified. These are figures for the whole force over the year to May 2026, and only 8 of those months have published outcomes. Charging decisions are made across the county, so the figure says nothing about Sharpness itself. It tells you how likely someone is to be caught. It says nothing about how likely a crime is to happen. A village can be about as safe as its district and still sit under a force that rarely gets as far as a charge.

Sharpness is middling for safety. Crime runs at about the district's level, and the weak point is what happens after a crime is reported, not how much crime there is.
