The schools are the strongest thing Lower Edmonton has going for it. Every graded school in the borough is rated good or better. None has a weaker grade. The nearest primary is a few minutes' walk from most homes. For an area that struggles on most other measures, the schools are a pleasant surprise.
Enfield's record with Ofsted is as clean as a borough's record gets. All 42 of its schools with a published overall grade are rated good or better: two outstanding and 40 good, with none rated requires improvement and none inadequate. Another 37 settings across Enfield have no published grade yet, so they count neither for nor against. The 42 is a borough-wide count, though, and covers far more than these streets.
Close to home there is plenty of choice at primary level, including Eldon Primary School, Hazelbury Primary School, Starks Field Primary School and Latymer All Saints CofE Primary School, along with a handful of others. Enfield Council allocates every place by its published admissions rules, so living round the corner from one of them does not get your child in. The council publishes how far each school's last offer reached in recent years, and that is the page to read before a school's name gets anywhere near a house-hunting shortlist. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling puts the nearest primary about seven minutes away on foot.
Secondary is a longer walk. The same 2019 modelling puts the nearest secondary about 17 minutes away on foot, 15 by public transport or nine by car. Edmonton County School appears on both the primary and secondary lists for the area. The Latymer School and AIM Academy North London are the other secondaries nearby. West Lea School is also nearby for families who need something other than a mainstream setting. The walk to school goes from seven minutes to 17 at about the age when children stop wanting a parent walking alongside them.
Schools are one of Lower Edmonton's real strengths. The borough has every graded school at good or better and a primary within an easy walk, which is more than plenty of pricier postcodes can say.
