Is Lower Edmonton a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Lower Edmonton.

Lower Edmonton is a bit less safe than the rest of its borough. Recorded crime runs about a tenth above the Enfield average. Violence makes up a smaller share than it does nationally. Car crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour make up bigger shares. It is a middling area, with more nuisance than danger.

The Metropolitan Police recorded 8,650 crimes in Lower Edmonton in the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate for that year is about 124 crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 11% above the Enfield average.

Enfield as a whole recorded about 113 crimes per 1,000 residents over the same year, against Lower Edmonton's 124. The gap is real, but it amounts to about a tenth.

Lower Edmonton is densely built, with about 12,100 people per square kilometre on average. Unemployment is about 5%, and about 18% of households are overcrowded. These figures describe the kind of place it is. They don't explain the crime.

The mix is where Lower Edmonton departs from the national pattern. Violence and sexual offences, a broad legal category that includes common assault without injury, make up 28% of crimes here against 35% nationally. Anti-social behaviour makes up 21% against 16%, vehicle crime 9% against 5% and drugs 8% against 4%. Other theft is level with the national share at 7%, and public order offences make up 5% against 7%. So the category behind most frightening headlines is below the national share here, and the ones above it are car crime, drugs and nuisance. The police.uk street map shows a year of reports road by road. Looking at the months around the exact street you are considering tells you far more than this area-wide total.

What happens after a report is a separate question from how much crime there is. The Metropolitan Police charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which places it 33rd of 42 forces in England and Wales, and about 53% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those are force-wide figures for the year to May 2026, covering all of London's boroughs. For more than half of reported crimes, the case closes without anyone being named.

Lower Edmonton is middling on safety: a little above its borough's crime rate, with more car crime and nuisance than violence.
