Is Iwade a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Iwade.

Yes, Iwade is a safe area, and by Swale standards it's close to spotless. Crime runs well under half the district rate. Burglary is rarer here than in the average place. Hardly anyone is out of work. The biggest threat to your evening is somebody else's parking.

Police recorded 183 crimes in Iwade in the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate is about 40 crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 62% below the Swale average. That's the gap between living in the district and living on its quiet edge. Most of Swale's crime happens somewhere with more going on than an Iwade estate after dark, which on a weeknight is a closed front door.

For comparison, Swale as a whole runs at about 105 crimes per 1,000 residents over the same period, against about 40 in Iwade. Both are published rates on the same basis, and Iwade comes out far lower.

Population density across the area averages about 3,100 people per square kilometre. That's estate density: close-packed houses in the middle, open farmland round the edges. Unemployment sits at about 2%, and only about 3% of households are overcrowded. That's what a place of mortgages, two jobs and spare bedrooms looks like. None of those figures explains the crime rate on its own, but together they describe a neighbourhood with very little going on after the school run.

The mix comes with a warning attached, because 183 crimes is a small base and a handful of incidents can move any share by several points. Violence and sexual offences make up about 38% of recorded crime, against about 35% nationally. That's the biggest category almost everywhere, and it covers everything up to and including common assault without injury, so here it's close to the national norm. Anti-social behaviour is about 26% against 16% nationally, and other theft about 11% against 7%. Criminal damage and arson is about 9% against 7%. Vehicle crime is about 4% against 5%, and burglary about 3% against 4%. So the share tilts slightly towards nuisance and away from break-ins. On a total this low, one bored summer could flip that next year, so treat it as a snapshot rather than a character trait.

What happens after a report is a separate question from how much crime there is. Kent Police charges a suspect in about 16% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it sixth of 42 forces. That's a force-wide figure, not an Iwade one. About 36% of cases across the force are closed with no suspect identified. So the police catch more people than most forces do, and still leave plenty of cases unsolved.

Safety is one of Iwade's real strengths. Crime runs at a fraction of the Swale rate, and the most likely disturbance is a neighbour's hedge trimmer.
