What are the schools like in Isleworth?

For anyone buying or renting in Isleworth.

The schools are good, and none of the graded ones is struggling. The primaries do well in maths. The secondaries come out a little above the middle. Most homes are a short walk from a primary. Parents in Isleworth get to compare good schools, and very few places offer that.

There are nine state primaries in the area, and their average Key Stage 2 maths score is about 108. That's comfortably above the expected standard. Isleworth Town Primary School is the one that carries the town's name. Spring Grove Primary School takes its name from the estate where Sir Joseph Banks once lived. On the Department for Transport's 2019 modelling, the nearest primary is about a nine-minute walk from the average home.

The seven state secondaries in the area have a combined Attainment 8 score of about 48. That's solid without being spectacular. Several of them teach boys and girls separately. Isleworth and Syon School for Boys is the one that carries the place's name, and the Green School comes in a boys' and a girls' version. Bolder Academy is the mixed option. A family with one of each can end up at the Green School twice and still go to two sets of parents' evenings. The nearest secondary is about a thirteen-minute walk on the same 2019 modelling, and West Thames College takes students on to further education.

Across the London Borough of Hounslow, all 39 schools Ofsted has graded are rated good or outstanding, and eight of them are outstanding. Not one is rated requires improvement or inadequate. Another 25 settings across the borough have no published grade yet. That's a borough-wide record, so Isleworth parents can't claim it as their own. Every other parent in Hounslow can say the same.

A school being good doesn't mean your child gets a place there. Hounslow council allocates places by its published admissions rules, which usually come down to criteria such as siblings and distance, and some schools set their own faith or other criteria. Living near Isleworth Town Primary doesn't give you a claim on a place. The useful check is how far from each school last year's furthest successful applicant lived, which the council publishes. Every school around here has a waiting list, so the work is in getting a place.

The schools are one of Isleworth's real strengths. Your choice is between good schools, and Hounslow's admissions rules decide which one your child actually gets.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
