Higham, Kent
Higham kept its medieval church out in Church Street and then built the village somewhere else, mostly out of post-war semis and bungalows. Charles Dickens's daughter Kate got married in that church in 1860, and it has since been declared redundant, which tells you nothing afterwards was ever going to top it. Gravesend is on one side and Strood is on the other, and the whole appeal of Higham is that you can drive to both and live in neither.
