What are the schools like in Yeading?

For anyone buying or renting in Yeading.

Yeading's schools are better than its house prices or its reputation would suggest. The primaries test well, and the secondaries are solid. Across the borough, nearly every school inspectors have graded is good or better. Most families can walk to a primary in under ten minutes. School is one of the few things in Yeading that needs no excuses made for it.

There are 8 state primary schools in the area, and their pupils averaged about 106 in end-of-primary maths, above the expected standard the tests are built around. The two schools named after the place split the job between them. Yeading Infant and Nursery School takes the youngest children, and Yeading Junior School takes them on from about age seven. Hewens Primary School and Charville Academy are among the others nearby. On the Department for Transport's 2019 modelled times, the nearest primary is about an eight-minute walk from the typical home. Parents here change schools at seven, when the infant school hands over to the junior, but they rarely have to change school runs at that point.

There are 4 state secondaries in the area, and their pupils averaged an Attainment 8 score of about 49. Attainment 8 adds up a pupil's grades across eight GCSE-level subjects. Barnhill Community High School and Hewens College are the two names most Yeading families will hear first. The modelled walk to the nearest secondary is about 16 minutes, twice the primary walk. Most Yeading children are old enough by then to complain about it, but not old enough to be allowed to get the bus on their own.

Hillingdon is the authority behind the inspection figures. Across the whole borough, Ofsted has graded 35 of 38 rated settings good or outstanding, so only a handful fall short. Seven are outstanding, three require improvement, and none are inadequate. Another 44 settings across the borough have no published grade yet. Those are not low-rated schools. They simply haven't had a graded inspection.

Places are allocated under Hillingdon Council's published admissions rules, so living near a school with Yeading in its name won't get your child a place there on its own. The council can tell you how far from each school the last child admitted lived in recent years, and that matters more than the school's name on a street sign. Popular primaries fill to the last desk, and the distance at which places run out changes from year to year.

Schools are one of Yeading's real strengths. A family buying here gets good, mostly walkable schools at a lower price than the more expensive parts of the borough.
