What are the schools like in Worplesdon?

For anyone buying or renting in Worplesdon.

Worplesdon's schools are good, and the county they sit in is better than good. More than nine in ten graded schools across Surrey are Good or better. You can walk to the nearest primary. The nearest secondary means a lift. The only thing parents here find hard is the house price that gets them in.

Around here there's one mainstream state primary with published results, and its average maths score at the end of Key Stage 2 is 101. One school is too small a sample to talk about a local trend, so read it as a snapshot of that school, not a pattern. Worplesdon Primary School in Fairlands is the one that carries the parish name. Wood Street Infant School covers the younger years on the Wood Street side, and Normandy Village School is another option to the west. Door to door, the nearest primary is modelled at about an 18-minute walk or an 8-minute drive. Children are more likely to walk it than their parents are.

Ofsted's picture covers all of Surrey, not just Worplesdon, and it's strong. Of 159 settings with a published overall grade, Ofsted has rated 147 Good or better, which is more than nine in ten. Thirty are Outstanding, seven Require Improvement and five are Inadequate. Settings still waiting for their first graded inspection aren't in those counts, and having no grade tells you nothing about them either way. The county average isn't a promise about any single school, but it does make it hard to land somewhere bad by accident.

Secondary school takes more planning. The nearest is modelled at about 26 minutes by public transport, 12 by car or roughly 46 minutes on foot. Hoe Valley School is one option for 11 to 16-year-olds, and Woking College takes students after that. The walking time explains the queue of cars at the school gates each morning more than any lecture on the school run ever could.

A school's name on this page doesn't secure a place. Admissions follow each school's own published rules, and in popular schools the lines on the map shift from year to year. A house near a school gate is a good sign, not a guarantee. Before exchanging contracts, check the council's admissions criteria and last year's allocation distances for the specific school, not the estate agent's description of "catchment". The estate agent won't be around when the offer letter arrives.

The schools are one of Worplesdon's real strengths. The hard part is paying for the house, not getting a good school.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
