Is Worplesdon a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Worplesdon.

Yes, Worplesdon is safe, and not by a narrow margin. Its crime rate is about half of Guildford's. Almost nobody is out of work. Almost nobody lives in an overcrowded home. For most residents, the most dangerous thing around is the neighbour's planning application.

Police figures for June 2025 to May 2026 put Worplesdon's crime rate at about 47 recorded crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 46% below the Guildford borough average. That's 352 recorded crimes over those twelve months. Both figures are as published. The rate is calculated on a statistical-area population, so it can't be checked by dividing the count by the number of people who live in the parish.

Put side by side, the gap is clear. Guildford as a whole runs at about 87 crimes per 1,000 residents, against Worplesdon's 47. Guildford isn't a crime hotspot either, so being well below it tells you where Worplesdon sits.

The kind of place this is helps explain the numbers without explaining them away. Population density averages about 222 people per square kilometre, which is spread out enough that the commons outnumber the pavements. Unemployment is about 2% and overcrowding about 1%. Those figures describe the place. They don't prove it's safe, and no one of them causes a low crime rate. Together, they describe a place where life runs to a timetable.

The mix of crime comes with a warning. The totals are low enough that a handful of incidents can move a category's share by several points, so these figures describe the last twelve months, not a lasting feature of the parish. Violence and sexual offences, a wide legal category that includes common assault with no injury, made up about 34% of recorded crime, against about 35% nationally. That's essentially the national average, and it's the biggest category nearly everywhere. Anti-social behaviour was about 19%, against 16% nationally. Criminal damage and arson came to about 12%, against 7%. Public order offences were about 9% against 7%, other theft about 8% against 7%, and burglary about 5% against 4%. Several categories run a few points above their national share. On a base this small, that tells you more about how little happens overall than about what's going wrong. A small total makes every category look bigger.

What happens after a report is a separate question, and it's answered by the force, not the parish. Surrey Police charges a suspect in about 11% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 30th of 42 forces. About 36% of cases are closed with nobody identified. None of that measures how safe Worplesdon is. It tells you that if something is taken from your drive, the police are more likely to log it than to get it back. Fitting a camera to the garage is worth more than hoping for a knock on the door from an officer.

Safety is one of Worplesdon's real strengths. The crime rate sits well below a borough that's already comfortable, and what does happen here happens on a small scale.
