What are the schools like in West Ealing?

For anyone buying or renting in West Ealing.

Schools are the one part of West Ealing that delivers more than you pay for. The local primaries post strong maths results. Across the borough, about nine in ten graded schools are good or outstanding. None is rated inadequate. The house is the hard part of moving here, and the school is the easy one.

There are four mainstream state primaries in the area, and their average Key Stage 2 maths score is about 106. Drayton Green Primary School and Fielding Primary School are both local, as are St John's Primary School and Woodlands Academy. With only four schools, one strong cohort or one weak one can move that average. Even so, nothing in the number suggests a family has to drive past the nearest gate looking for something better. In 1882 the Ealing Lawn Tennis Club opened between St Leonards Road and the Great Western Railway and became the most successful women's tennis club in the world. The primaries are having a similar run, with less grass.

Ealing is the authority behind the Ofsted figures, which cover the whole borough. Ofsted has graded 39 of its schools, and 36 of them are good or outstanding, which is almost all of them. Fourteen are outstanding, three require improvement and none is inadequate. A family choosing between schools here is mostly choosing between good and very good, and the arguments at the school gate are about which kind of excellent.

Places go by Ealing Council's published admissions rules, and living next door to a school does not buy a seat in its classroom. Every year, some new arrivals discover that the school they walked past on the viewing has its own ideas about who lives close enough. Read the council's admissions criteria for the specific primary you have in mind, along with how the last few years' places were allocated, while the purchase can still be changed. Parents who have been through it can tell you the walking time to the gate to the minute, because the admissions rules gave them a reason to learn it.

Schools are where West Ealing is strongest. Whatever this place costs, a good education close to home isn't one of the things you'll struggle to get.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
