Is West Ealing a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in West Ealing.

West Ealing is safer than the borough around it, and the crime it does have is more of a nuisance than a danger. Its crime rate runs a little under Ealing's. Anti-social behaviour makes up a bigger share than usual. Violence and sexual offences make up a smaller one. It's an area where things annoy you more often than they frighten you.

In the twelve months to May 2026, police recorded 5,020 crimes in West Ealing, a published rate of about 110 per 1,000 residents. That is about 8% below the average for the London Borough of Ealing. A gap that size can open or close with a few busy months, so West Ealing is best described as slightly safer than the borough.

Across the whole of Ealing, the rate for the same year was about 120 per 1,000. West Ealing's is about 110. The two numbers sit close enough together that a move of a mile or so in either direction changes little.

This is a dense stretch of London, with about 11,200 people per square kilometre. Unemployment is about 4% and about 8% of homes are overcrowded. That describes a busy inner suburb of flats and terraces off the Uxbridge Road, with a lot of people, cars and front doors close together. It describes the neighbourhood, and doesn't explain the crime figures.

Anti-social behaviour is the largest category here, at about 33% of recorded crime against about 16% nationally. Violence and sexual offences come next at about 22%. That's well below the national share of about 35%, for a broad legal grouping that includes common assault without injury and is the largest category almost everywhere. Vehicle crime is about 11% here against 5% nationally. Burglary is about 5% against 4%, close enough to call level, and public order and other theft are each about 5%, a little under their national shares of 7%. The police's online crime map shows recorded incidents street by street, and a few minutes on it for any road you're looking at is time well spent. The Green Man on the Uxbridge Road was once a carters' stop, and West Ealing's crime still leans towards things with wheels.

The Metropolitan Police Service, which covers the whole of London, charges a suspect in about 10% of the cases it closes, against about 12% nationally. That puts it 33rd of 42 forces. About 53% of its cases close with no suspect identified. These are London-wide figures that measure what happens after a crime is reported, and they say nothing about how often crime happens in West Ealing. If a car is broken into here, the chances of anyone being charged are lower than in most of the country.

West Ealing is a safe place to live by London standards. Most of what goes wrong here is noise and damage to cars, and serious crime is a smaller part of the total than in most places.
