They're strong, and Surrey backs them up. Four state primaries serve the area. One state secondary carries the village's name. Across the county, more than nine in ten graded schools are good or better. The hill is steep, and plenty of families climb it for the school run.
There are four mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils average a Key Stage 2 maths score of about 104. Warlingham Village Primary School is the one with the village in its name and the one most buyers look up first. Hamsey Green Primary serves the northern end of the parish, and Whyteleafe Primary School is on the local list too. Four schools make a small sample, so one strong or weak year group can move that average. Even so, the score is the right side of ordinary for a place that also has plenty of bungalows and retirees.
Secondary is a single school. There is one mainstream state secondary in the area, with an average Attainment 8 score of about 44, so that number describes one school's results, not a spread across several. Warlingham School is the local secondary named for the village, and de Stafford School also appears among the secondaries nearby. Woldingham School and Caterham School are on the wider local list, as families in Woldingham will already know. The secondary result is the thinner part of the picture.
Surrey County Council's area is where the inspection numbers come from. Ofsted has graded 147 of the 159 settings it has rated there as good or outstanding, so almost all of them are good or better. Of those graded, 30 are outstanding, 7 require improvement and 5 are inadequate. Another 194 settings across the county have no published grade yet, and they aren't counted in either direction. That makes it a county-wide picture of a well-run system, and parents will still need to look at the results for each school they're considering.
Surrey County Council allocates places by its published admissions rules, so living near Warlingham Village Primary School or Warlingham School doesn't secure a place at either, however short the walk. Check the last few years' allocation results for the schools you actually want, and do it while you can still walk away from the house. A listing that says "walking distance to Warlingham School" describes the pavement. It says nothing about the admissions letter.
Schools are one of Warlingham's real strengths, held up by a county where good is normal and outstanding is common. The secondary picture rests on one school, so look at that school closely.
