Totton

The village that got promoted and never noticed·Hampshire·South East England

For centuries Totton held the title of largest village in England, which is a bit like being the world's tallest jockey. Someone promoted it to a town in 1974 and the town centre took the news so calmly it hasn't redecorated since. It sits at the exact point where the New Forest stops being ponies and postcards and settles for being the thing you drive through to reach them.
