Schools around Tooting are very good, and the only hard part is getting a place. Nearly every graded school in the borough is good or outstanding. None is rated inadequate. A few have yet to be graded at all. Choosing a school is easy, but whether your child gets in is up to the council.
Ofsted has graded 40 schools across Wandsworth, the borough Tooting belongs to, and 38 of them, almost all, are rated good or outstanding. Nine of those are outstanding. Two require improvement and none is inadequate. Another 30 settings in the borough have no published grade yet, which tells you nothing either way. A Wandsworth parent looking for a bad school to avoid won't find many.
In Tooting itself, Tooting Primary School is the one that carries the name, and Furzedown Primary School takes its name from the neighbourhood on the commons side. The secondaries in and around Tooting include Graveney School, Burntwood School and Ernest Bevin Academy. The council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so living near any of these schools doesn't guarantee a place. Read the council's admissions rules for the specific school you want, and check where your house falls under them, while your offer can still change. Tooting Graveney got its name from the De Gravenel family, who were given the land in Norman times. Families who want a place at Graveney School have to apply, and that takes longer.
Schools are where Tooting does best, and the only real competition is over who gets in.
