Who lives in Threemilestone?

For anyone buying or renting in Threemilestone.

Settled owner-occupiers in the back half of their working lives, mostly. Seven in ten own their homes. The typical resident is nearer fifty than thirty. Close to a third of households are a single person, and a fifth of the rest are couples with children. This is a place people move to once and then stop moving, which is either the highest compliment you can pay a village or a warning, depending on your age.

On tenure, about 70% of households own their home, around 22% rent privately, and about 6% rent from a social landlord. That ownership level is the single most defining number here, and it shapes everything from how the streets look on a Sunday to how rarely anything comes up for sale.

The age profile is older than the county's tourist brochures suggest. The median age is about 47, and only around 24% of residents fall into the twenty-five to forty-four band that usually drives a local rental market. Every population figure on this page comes from the 2021 Census.

Income sits comfortably in the middle. Modelled median household income for the area was about £54,400 gross, before tax, for the financial year to March 2023. That describes that year rather than today, and it is a modelled area average rather than a survey of anyone's payslip.

Households here skew small. About 30% are a single person, and about 14% of all households are a pensioner living alone, which is a subset of that first figure rather than something to add to it. Couples with dependent children account for around 17%, and lone-parent households for about 10%. The picture is a village with plenty of quiet front doors and a school run that involves a specific subset of streets.

Qualifications split in a way that tells you what kind of work people do. About 32% hold a degree-level qualification, about 15% hold none at all, and only around 2% are full-time students. That is a working population rather than a graduate enclave or a place that empties out in the holidays, and the spread between those first two figures is the ordinary shape of a Cornish community that has both professionals and trades in it.

On health, about 82% of residents describe their health as good or very good, with around 5% reporting bad or very bad health. Wider health measures are published for the Cornwall council area rather than for the village: smoking prevalence runs at about 12% of adults, rated similar to England, and the preventable mortality rate sits at around 140 per 100,000, also rated similar to England. Those are county figures with an England benchmark attached, and they say nothing about any individual street here.

The people are the most ordinary thing about Threemilestone, in the plain sense of the word. Middle-aged, mostly owning, mostly working, middling on income and health alike, with none of the extremes that make a place either interesting or difficult.
