The schools are the best reason to buy in Manor Park, and they are better than the area's reputation would suggest. Every school in the borough with a published Ofsted grade is good or outstanding. The primaries are close to most front doors. There is one state secondary in the area, so most children who live locally end up in its uniform. Buyers who judge Manor Park by its postcode will miss the one thing it does best.
There are ten mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils average a maths score of 108 in the Key Stage 2 tests taken at the end of primary school. Salisbury Primary School, on the stretch between Romford Road and High Street North, has been teaching since 1893 and is among the oldest. Aldersbrook Primary School serves the Edwardian estate of the same name on the northern edge. Essex Primary School still carries the county's name, although the area left Essex for Greater London in 1965.
There is one mainstream state secondary in the area, Little Ilford School, and its pupils average about 48 on Attainment 8, the measure built from a pupil's eight main GCSE results. With only one secondary, there is not much to compare. For most local families the secondary choice comes down to Little Ilford or a bus ride.
Newham's schools have an unusually clean record with Ofsted. Of the 50 settings in the borough with a published grade, all 50 are rated good or outstanding, and 22 of them are outstanding. Not one is rated requires improvement or inadequate. Another 38 settings in the borough have not yet received a published grade and are left out of those counts. Newham has spread good schools across the whole borough.
Newham Council allocates school places under its published admissions rules, so living close to Salisbury, Aldersbrook or Little Ilford does not guarantee a place there. Even near the gate, a house is no promise of a place in the classroom. Look up the council's admissions criteria and the furthest distance each school offered places at in recent years, and check where the house you are buying falls against them. When every school nearby is rated good or better, a parent who loses out on their first choice can still end up somewhere decent.
Schools are where Manor Park does best. Buyers who move here for the Elizabeth line can find the classrooms a bigger reason to stay.
