Little Chalfont

A station that grew a village out of spite·Buckinghamshire·South East England

Little Chalfont is what happens when a railway company drops a station into empty farmland and waits for commuters to build a village around it. The residents chose the name themselves in 1925, because "Chalfont Road Village" sounded too much like what it was, and then campaigned until they no longer had to be part of Amersham. Ozzy Osbourne once lived on its edge, and that is still the most rock and roll thing to happen here, though grammar-school admissions season gets close.
