Little Chalfont's schools are strong, and the village has a grammar school on its own doorstep. The primaries around here post high maths scores. Two secondaries in the area post high results too. More than eight in ten graded schools across the county are good or better. Getting into the school is the hard part.
Six mainstream state primaries serve the area around the village, and their pupils averaged about 109 in Key Stage 2 maths. Little Chalfont Primary School carries the village's name, and a second primary academy in the Chalfont valley gives parents a choice without leaving the parish. Further out, Chalfont St Giles Junior School and the Church of England primaries in Amersham and Chesham Bois add more options. For a village whose name begins with "Little", that is plenty of choice.
The two mainstream state secondaries in the area average an Attainment 8 score of about 65, weighted by pupil numbers. Dr Challoner's High School, a girls' grammar, is in the village itself, Dr Challoner's Grammar School is nearby, and Amersham School is the non-selective option. On the Department for Transport's modelled times from 2019, the nearest primary is about a 12-minute walk and the nearest secondary about 32, which is the point where the school run moves into the car.
Buckinghamshire has 94 schools with a published Ofsted grade, and 80 of them are good or outstanding, so more than eight in ten. Nineteen are outstanding, 11 require improvement and three are inadequate. Those are county figures, spread over a lot of schools the Little Chalfont school run never goes near.
Buckinghamshire Council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so living close to a school doesn't secure a place there, and the grammar schools select on top of that. Read the council's criteria and last year's allocations for the exact school a child would need, because a house near a grammar school and a place at one are two separate purchases. The parents who check the rules first sleep a lot better than the ones who only checked the walking distance.
Schools are one of Little Chalfont's real strengths. The results are high at both stages, and families who sort out admissions as carefully as they sort out the mortgage will get the most from them.
