Bovingdon
Bovingdon is a Hertfordshire village with a retired wartime airfield next door and Heathrow's holding queue parked permanently overhead, so the sky here commutes harder than most of the residents. The old runway has entertained Glenn Miller, a Bond villain's flying car and, eventually, a prison, which is a broader guest list than most villages manage in a thousand years. These days it does a Saturday market. People move here for the village and spend their first clear summer evening watching jets stacked above the garden, all of them waiting for permission to be somewhere else.
