What are the schools like in Lingfield, Surrey?

For anyone buying or renting in Lingfield, Surrey.

Good, and in Surrey good is the floor rather than the ceiling. Nine in ten graded settings across the county are Good or better. Two state primaries serve the village and its neighbour. Their maths results give nobody anything to apologise for. The hard part here is the house attached to the school place, not the school.

Around Lingfield there are 2 mainstream state primaries, and their pupils averaged a Key Stage 2 maths score of 105. Lingfield Primary School carries the village's name and sits in the middle of things; Dormansland Primary School covers the neighbouring village to the south. Two schools is a short list, which means parents do less comparing and more hoping. The upside is that nobody spends a spring building a spreadsheet of twelve options they could never have got into anyway.

Ofsted has graded 147 of the 159 inspected settings in Surrey Good or Outstanding, which is roughly nine in ten. Those figures cover the whole county, not Lingfield alone, so they describe the pool rather than the pond. Within that, 30 settings hold Outstanding, 7 are rated Requires Improvement and 5 Inadequate. The tail exists. It is thin, and parents in Surrey tend to know exactly where it is before the estate agent does.

Two other names turn up locally. Lingfield College sits in the village, and St Piers School and St Piers College, run by Young Epilepsy, provide specialist education for young people with complex needs. Neither is a default choice for a family moving in off the back of a primary-school search, and the St Piers settings serve a specific group, but both are part of what schooling in Lingfield means.

None of these names comes with a guaranteed place. Admission runs on the council's rules and the school's own criteria, and buying a house near a school buys proximity, not a seat. Check the admissions policy for the year your child starts before you check the paint colours, because the admissions team will not be swayed by the paint colours.

Schools are one of Lingfield's real strengths: a county where good is the norm, and a village primary that carries its name without embarrassing it.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
