Is Fulham a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Fulham.

Yes, Fulham is a safe area, and safer than the borough around it. Recorded crime comes to a little over a hundred offences a year for every thousand residents. Across the borough as a whole it is closer to a hundred and fifty. Nuisance and theft make up more of it than usual, and violence makes up less. Of the borough's two names, Fulham is the one pulling the crime average down.

The Metropolitan Police recorded 7,886 crimes in Fulham in the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate for that year is about 104 crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 28% below the Hammersmith and Fulham average.

Across the whole of Hammersmith and Fulham, the published rate for the same year is about 145 per 1,000. Fulham is measured against a busy inner-London borough here, so the gap reflects how it compares with its own neighbours.

Fulham is dense, with an average of about 17,900 people per square kilometre across its neighbourhoods. About 4% of residents were unemployed at the 2021 census and about 7% of households were overcrowded. None of that explains the crime rate in either direction. Plenty of people live packed close together here and still come in under the borough rate, and that is the more interesting part.

Antisocial behaviour and violence and sexual offences each make up about 24% of recorded crime in Fulham. Nationally, antisocial behaviour is about 16% of the total and violence about 35%, and the violence category is a broad legal grouping that includes common assault where nobody was hurt. Other theft is about 9% here against about 7% nationally, vehicle crime about 7% against 5%, burglary about 6% against 4%, and public order about 6%, close to the national 7%. Compared with the national pattern, Fulham has more things taken and more noise made, and fewer people hurt. The street-level map on police.uk will show whether the antisocial behaviour on a particular road is clustered near the house you are looking at or spread across the area.

The Metropolitan Police Service charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally, and about 53% of its cases close with no suspect identified, both over the year from June 2025 to May 2026. Those are force-wide figures for the whole of London's police. They tell you what happens after a report, and on its own they say nothing about how likely you are to need to make one in Fulham.

Fulham's safety record is one of its real strengths. Crime runs well below the borough, and the extra is in property crime and nuisance more than harm to people.
