What are the schools like in Frimley?

For anyone buying or renting in Frimley.

Good, and in a county that treats a school grade like a stock price. Nearly every graded school in Surrey is good or better. The local primaries are a short walk from most doors. The nearest secondary is a longer walk, but still a walk. Frimley's schools are one of the reasons people buy here and not somewhere else.

Ofsted has published an overall grade for 159 schools and settings across Surrey, and 147 of them are rated good or better. That is more than nine in ten, which in most counties would be the headline and in Surrey is the expected result. Thirty hold an outstanding grade. At the other end, 7 require improvement and 5 are rated inadequate, so the county's weak spots are few but real. These counts cover the whole local authority, not Frimley alone. Another 194 settings have no published overall grade yet, either because they are new or haven't been inspected under the current system. That tells you nothing about their quality in either direction.

The Department for Transport's modelled journey times, from 2019, put the nearest primary school about 12 minutes' walk from the typical Frimley home, or about 8 minutes by car. The nearest secondary is about 23 minutes on foot and 10 by car. For most families that means the primary run happens on foot, and the secondary run turns into a debate about whether a teenager can be trusted with a bus.

Several schools carry the town's identity. Frimley CofE School has the place's name on the sign. Tomlinscote School is the secondary on the Frimley side of the borough, and the one most local parents will ask about first. Ravenscote Junior School and The Grove Primary Academy serve the family estates, and St Augustine's Catholic Primary School offers a faith option for families who want one. Beyond those, the surrounding area holds a spread of infant, junior and all-through primaries, plus further secondaries within driving distance.

A school's name on a map doesn't get a child a place. Admissions follow the council's rules, not the estate agent's brochure, and a house close to a popular school is a better bet than a guarantee. Parents who assume the address settles the matter tend to find out otherwise in April, by letter. Check the admissions criteria for the specific school and the specific year before you decide which road to buy on. One nearby preparatory school has closed, so any listing that still mentions it is out of date.

Schools are one of Frimley's real strengths. The only hard part is getting a place, not finding a good school to apply to.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
