Is Edenbridge, Kent a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Edenbridge, Kent.

Edenbridge is safe enough, but it's noisier than the rest of its district. Recorded crime runs well above the Sevenoaks average. Much of the extra is anti-social behaviour and vandalism. Violence makes up the same share here as it does nationally. The trouble is more about bad behaviour than danger, and it is still trouble.

Police.uk recorded 886 crimes in Edenbridge in the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate for the same period is about 90 crimes per 1,000 residents, roughly 40% above the local-authority average. A buyer comparing Edenbridge with the villages around it will notice.

Across the Sevenoaks district as a whole, the rate is about 64 per 1,000. Edenbridge's 90 sits well above that. The district is mostly villages and green belt, so being the busiest town in a quiet district is part of the reason. It doesn't explain the whole gap.

Edenbridge is a compact town, with an average density of about 3,700 people per square kilometre in its built-up neighbourhoods. Unemployment is about 3% and about 3% of households are overcrowded. That is a working town with ordinary pressures, not a place under strain. None of these figures explains the crime rate on its own. They describe the kind of place producing it.

The mix is more useful than the headline. Violence and sexual offences make up about 35% of recorded crime here, against about 35% nationally. That category is the biggest almost everywhere and includes common assault without injury, so Edenbridge sits exactly at the national norm on it. Anti-social behaviour is about 21% of incidents against 16% nationally, and criminal damage and arson about 11% against 7%. Those two categories account for the gap. Shoplifting is about 8% here and nationally, other theft about 6% against 7%, and vehicle crime about 4% against 5%. In other words, Edenbridge has more broken things and late-night noise than the average town, and slightly fewer car break-ins. The places where it differs from national norms are the ones you notice from an upstairs window, not the ones you need a lawyer for.

What happens after a report is a separate question. Kent Police charges a suspect in about 16% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which ranks sixth of 42 forces. That's a figure for the whole force, not for Edenbridge, and it says nothing about how safe any one street is. Kent Police also closes about 36% of cases without identifying a suspect. If someone scratches your car, that is the honest answer to whether anyone will be caught.

Edenbridge is below par on safety for a district this quiet. You'll notice the nuisance more than you'll be endangered by it. Anyone expecting countryside calm should walk the town centre on a Friday evening before making an offer.
