Is Yorkley and Whitecroft a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Yorkley and Whitecroft.

Yorkley and Whitecroft is a safe place to live, and a bit safer than the Forest of Dean around it. Crime runs a little below the district rate. The yearly total is in the low hundreds. Almost nobody is out of work and almost nobody is crammed in. The district average is being pushed up by somewhere busier.

Gloucestershire Constabulary's published figures put crime here at about 39 per 1,000 residents in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, roughly 9% below the local-authority average. That year produced 202 recorded crimes. The published rate is worked out on a different population base from the resident count, so the two numbers should not be divided into each other to check one against the other.

For comparison, the Forest of Dean as a whole recorded about 43 crimes per 1,000 residents over the same twelve months, against about 39 here. Somewhere in the district the extra four per thousand are being made, and these villages are not where.

As neighbourhood texture, the villages hold about 910 people per square kilometre on average, unemployment is about 2% and about 1% of homes are overcrowded. Those figures describe the place and do not explain its crime. They do describe a settlement of owner-occupied houses with drives, the kind of place where the main nuisance on most streets is someone else's hedge.

Violence and sexual offences made up about 36% of the year's crimes, against about 35% nationally, so that share is ordinary. The category is a wide legal grouping that includes common assault where nobody was hurt, and it is the biggest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour is the one share that stands apart, at about 30% here against 16% across England and Wales. Public order was about 7% against 7%, criminal damage and arson about 6% against 7%, vehicle crime about 6% against 5%, and drugs about 3% against 4%. On a base of 202 crimes, a single neighbour dispute logged a few times over can shift a share by several points, so this year's mix could easily look different next year. For a buyer who wants the street-level picture, the police.uk crime map for the exact postcode is the place to look.

Gloucestershire Constabulary charges a suspect in about 9% of cases, against about 12% across England and Wales, which puts it 39th of 42 forces on that measure. About 33% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those are force-wide figures, built from the eight months of outcomes it reported in the year to May 2026. They tell you what happens after a crime anywhere in the county, and they say nothing about how often crime happens in Yorkley.

Yorkley and Whitecroft is a safe place to live, a little below the district rate in a district that is not rough to begin with. The force's charging record is the weak part, and a buyer is unlikely to need it much here.
