Good, and the harder part is getting to them. Nine in ten of Kent's graded schools are good or better. The primaries around here post solid maths results. The nearest secondary is a drive, not a walk. The teaching is fine; the logistics are where parents earn their stripes.
At primary level, the four mainstream state primaries in the area averaged 105 in the Key Stage 2 maths assessment. That's a respectable result for four village schools, with no single star carrying the rest. St. Edmund's Church of England Primary School, New Ash Green Primary School and Fawkham Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School are all within reach. Department for Transport modelling from 2019 puts the nearest primary about 17 minutes' walk or 8 minutes' drive from the average home, close enough for a walk on dry mornings and short enough that nobody admits to driving it.
Ofsted's figures cover the whole of Kent, not just this corner of it. Across the county, 221 of the 245 schools holding a published grade are rated good or better, which is about nine in every ten. Of those, 38 are outstanding. At the other end, 21 require improvement and 3 are inadequate. A further 255 settings have no published grade yet, which tells you nothing either way. The county sets a high baseline, and the schools nearest West Kingsdown don't have much of a gap to make up.
Secondary is where the geography starts to bite. The same 2019 modelling puts the nearest secondary about 84 minutes on foot, 32 by public transport and 14 by car. Wrotham School and Leigh Academy Longfield are the nearby secondaries, and both are a proper journey rather than a stroll. Around here, the eleven-plus conversation is as much about bus routes and car shares as it is about results.
None of these names come with a guaranteed place. Living near a school doesn't mean your child gets in, and buying a house because of the school on the brochure's map is how people end up with an offer somewhere else. Check the admission rules for each school with the council before exchanging contracts, because it's too late once the removal van has left.
The schools are one of West Kingsdown's real strengths, sitting in a county where good is the norm and outstanding isn't rare. What you'll spend is time in the car, not worry about the classroom.
