Is West Kingsdown a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in West Kingsdown.

West Kingsdown is about as safe as the rest of the Sevenoaks district, no safer and no worse. Its crime rate sits almost exactly on the district average. Burglary is a minor part of the count. Unemployment is close to nothing. It's the kind of place where the crime that does happen tends to involve what's parked outside rather than who's walking past.

Kent Police recorded 382 crimes in West Kingsdown over the year from June 2025 to May 2026. The published rate for the area is about 63 crimes per 1,000 residents. That's a small village's worth of incidents spread over twelve months, and nothing about the headline number puts the place outside the ordinary.

For comparison, the Sevenoaks district as a whole runs at about 64 per 1,000 over the same period. That's 63 against 64, and the difference is too small to mean anything. Anyone who tells you West Kingsdown is safer than the district, or worse, is selling you a house or selling you a scare.

The neighbourhood texture is what you'd expect to go with numbers like that. Its neighbourhoods average about 2,230 people per square kilometre. Unemployment is about 2%, and about 2% of households are overcrowded. None of that explains the crime figures on its own, but it describes an area where very few people are short of work or short of room.

The breakdown by type comes with a warning. The totals are small enough that a handful of incidents can move any category by several points, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a settled pattern. Violence and sexual offences, a broad legal grouping that includes common assault without injury, made up about 33% of recorded crime, slightly below the national share of about 35%. Anti-social behaviour was about 13%, against 16% nationally. The figures that stand out are further down the list. Other theft made up about 13% against about 7% nationally, criminal damage and arson about 12% against 7%, and vehicle crime about 11% against 5%. Burglary was about 5%, against about 4% nationally. In other words, the area records less of the confrontational crime than the national mix and more of the kind aimed at property and vehicles. A few bad weeks could reshuffle that order.

Once a crime is reported, the outcome depends on the force, not the village. Kent Police charges a suspect in about 16% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 6th of 42 forces in England and Wales over the year from June 2025 to May 2026. About 36% of its cases close with no suspect identified. That's the honest answer to whether someone gets caught: better than most forces, and still a long way from most of the time. It says nothing about how safe West Kingsdown is, only about what happens after something goes wrong.

West Kingsdown is middling on safety: it neither calms nerves nor rings alarm bells, and a buyer's attention is better spent on where they park than on who lives next door.
