Very good, and the county's inspectors say so in writing. Nine in ten Surrey schools are graded good or better. The local primaries post strong maths results. The nearest primary is a short walk for most homes. The hard part is getting the place, not finding the school.
There are three state primaries around here with published results, and their average end-of-primary maths score is about 108. Thames Ditton Infant School and Thames Ditton Junior School carry the village's name and split the job in two, so a child does the infant years in one and moves up to the other. Long Ditton St Mary's CofE (Aided) Junior School and St Paul's Catholic Primary School, Thames Ditton, are the other local options, and Weston Green Preparatory School is there for families paying fees. The village has been at this a while: a girls' school was running by 1812 with help from Baroness de Ros, and the schools at the end of Church Walk were started in 1860. Two centuries of practice shows.
Surrey County Council's schools are a strong set. Ofsted has graded 147 of Surrey's 159 graded schools good or better, which is more than nine in ten, and 30 of them are outstanding. At the other end, 7 require improvement and 5 are inadequate. That's a county-wide count, so it describes Surrey's schools as a whole and gives no grade to any single school in the village.
Places are allocated by Surrey's published admissions rules, so a house within sight of a school gate secures a hope and nothing more, and a church school's rules may weigh faith criteria alongside distance. On the Department for Transport's modelled times from 2019, the nearest primary is about a nine-minute walk and the nearest secondary about 18 minutes. Look up which secondaries the council has actually offered to children on your road in the last few years, because the nearest one on the map and the one in the offer letter can be two different buildings. Parents who have been walking a five-year-old down the High Street for six years tend to discover the secondary question rather suddenly.
For the years after sixteen, Esher Sixth Form College is the local option. Plenty of families never look further, which in Surrey counts as a compliment.
Schools are one of Thames Ditton's real strengths, and the price of the houses is partly the price of that.
