Who lives in Stubbington?

For anyone buying or renting in Stubbington.

Mostly older homeowners on comfortable incomes. The median resident is fifty-one. Roughly eight in ten households own their home. Typical household income runs at about £64,700. A village that bought in and largely stayed.

For tenure, ownership dominates the village to a degree that is unusual even for suburban Hampshire. Around eight in ten homes are owned outright or with a mortgage. About one in ten is privately rented, and roughly one in twelve is social. The combined rental share is about one in five, with private renting and social renting almost evenly split. The practical consequence is a low-turnover village, where households move because they want to rather than because the lease renews, and where the streets carry the same residents over long stretches of time.

On age, the median resident is fifty-one, which puts the village on the older side of the south-coast distribution. The 25-to-44 working-age band, the demographic that drives household formation and the school-run rush, accounts for only about one in six residents. That low share is matched by a high single-pensioner share of about one in five households, which is the part of the demographic profile that explains the bungalow count, the daytime stillness on the side streets, and the routine schedule the village runs to. Single-person households of all ages make up around three in ten of the total.

Income is comfortable rather than wealthy. The typical household pulls in about £64,700 a year, which lands above the national median and below the Hampshire affluent-suburb level. About a third of working-age adults hold a degree, and roughly 15 percent hold no qualifications, with a long middle of skilled trades and clerical roles in between. Around a third of the workforce works from home, which is the line that explains why the broadband statistics matter more than the bus timetable. Unemployment runs at about 1 percent and the full-time student share is roughly the same.

For households, the make-up is more retired than family. Couples with dependent children make up about one in six households, lone-parent families about one in fifteen, and the rest is divided between couples without children, single occupants and the small communal-living population of around 750 residents, which is the kind of figure that points to the village's care-home capacity. The deprivation profile sits in the top quartile for affluence, the health profile shows roughly eight in ten residents reporting good or very good health, and the share reporting bad or very bad health is about 5 percent.

Stubbington is the kind of community that lands a top score on the standard indicators: settled, healthy, owner-occupied, well-educated, and unlikely to be displaced by the next economic wobble. The people who live here are mostly the people who bought here and stayed.
