What are the schools like in Stotfold?

For anyone buying or renting in Stotfold.

Stotfold's schools are sound, and the council area around them is one of the more reliable in the region for getting a good one. Nearly nine in ten graded schools across the authority are good or better. The local primaries score respectably in maths. There is a primary carrying the town's own name. Parents here spend less time panicking and more time comparing two good options.

Around here, four state primaries post an average Key Stage 2 maths score of about 104. St Mary's CofE Academy Stotfold is the one wearing the town's name, and Roecroft Lower School and Fairfield Park Lower School are among the other primaries on the local list. Primary is where a family in Stotfold has the most choice within a short drive, and the most reason to feel relaxed about it.

At secondary level the area has one mainstream state secondary counted, with a pupil-weighted Attainment 8 score of about 39. One school is a small base for a number, so a single year's cohort can move it more than a buyer might expect, and the score is best read alongside the school's own published results over several years.

Ofsted has graded 59 settings across Central Bedfordshire and put 52 of them at good or better, close to nine in ten. One is outstanding, five require improvement and two are inadequate; another 43 settings across the authority have no published grade yet. With a single outstanding school in the whole authority, most families here are choosing between good and good, which is the nicer argument to be having over dinner.

Places are allocated under Central Bedfordshire Council's published admissions rules, so buying a house near a named school does not by itself secure a seat in it. That catches out a particular kind of Stotfold buyer, because the postal address says Hitchin while the school application goes to Central Bedfordshire, and a family expecting Hertfordshire's forms and deadlines can miss the right window entirely. Confirm which council handles admissions for the exact house, and read that council's rules for the year you apply, while there is still time to adjust the plan.

Schools are one of Stotfold's real strengths: dependable primaries, an authority where good is the normal grade, and the main risk is filling in the wrong county's form.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
