The schools are the strongest thing South Nutfield has going for it. The primaries post solid results. More than nine in ten graded schools across Surrey are rated good or better. The secondaries are further away and score more modestly. Easy at five, a car journey at eleven.
The eight state primaries in the area average a Key Stage 2 maths score of about 104, which is the kind of number a parent reads twice and then stops worrying about. Nutfield Church CofE Primary School is the one carrying the village's name, and Bletchingley Village Primary School serves the older settlement up on the ridge. The modelled walk to the nearest primary is about 16 minutes, or about 8 by car, on the Department for Transport's 2019 journey times. That makes the morning run the rare school gate you can reach without deploying a four-by-four.
Secondary is where it gets less tidy. The two state secondaries in the area average an Attainment 8 score of 45, weighted by pupil numbers. That's respectable rather than a headline, and a comfortable primary result doesn't carry over automatically at eleven. Merstham Park School and St Bede's School are among the secondaries within reach. The nearest secondary is about 15 minutes by car, 31 by public transport, and close to an hour on foot. Children who walked to primary in a quarter of an hour find out quite quickly what rural Surrey means by "local".
Ofsted has graded 147 of 159 settings good or better across Surrey, which is almost all of them, and 30 are outstanding. At the other end, 7 require improvement and 5 are inadequate. These figures cover the whole county authority, not this corner of Tandridge, so read them as the standard the local schools are measured against, not a report card on any single school. Plenty of other settings haven't yet received a published grade. That tells you nothing about them either way.
None of the schools named here guarantees a place. Admissions follow each school's own published criteria, and a church primary may weigh different things from a community one. Before you offer on a house for a particular school, check its admissions policy and recent allocations directly with the school and with Surrey. The buyers who find out in April which list they were actually on are always the ones who assumed.
Schools are one of South Nutfield's real strengths, carried by strong village primaries and a county where good is the norm. The only snag is that secondary school comes with a daily commute.
