What are the schools like in Seven Kings?

For anyone buying or renting in Seven Kings.

The schools are the best thing about Seven Kings. Almost every graded school in the borough is good or better. The primaries post strong maths results. Nothing in the borough has been judged failing. The difficult part is getting a place, and money doesn't help with that.

Around here there are seven mainstream state primaries, and their pupils averaged about 107 in the Key Stage 2 maths tests at the end of primary school. Downshall Primary School and South Park Primary School are both close to Seven Kings Rail Station, and Goodmayes Primary School covers the streets out towards Goodmayes. Eastcourt Independent School is there for families who would rather pay fees than gamble on allocations. With that much choice, the hardest decision is which one to put first on the form.

Only one mainstream state secondary in the area is counted in the results, and its pupils averaged about 49 on Attainment 8, the score built from their best eight subjects at sixteen. The Palmer Catholic Academy is one of the secondaries nearby. An average from one school reflects one year group, and the next year group may come in higher or lower.

Of the 35 settings Ofsted has graded across Redbridge, 33 are good or outstanding, five of them outstanding. Two require improvement and none is inadequate. Another 29 settings across the borough have no published grade yet, which tells you nothing either way about how good they are. Across Redbridge, ending up with a weak school takes bad luck more than bad planning.

Redbridge Council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so living within sight of a school gate doesn't secure a place there, however long the walk felt at the viewing. Faith schools such as The Palmer Catholic Academy set their own criteria on top of that. The useful check is how far from each school last year's final offer reached, which Redbridge publishes school by school, and it is worth reading for the schools you want. "Walking distance to good schools" in the particulars describes a walk, and the council decides who gets in.

Schools are where Seven Kings is at its best, and once you have a place, there is little left to worry about.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
