What are the schools like in Send, Surrey?

For anyone buying or renting in Send, Surrey.

The schools are the reason to pay the prices. More than nine in ten graded settings across the county are good or better. Thirty are outstanding. The village has its own primary. The hard part isn't finding a good school, it's getting the place.

Ofsted has graded 159 settings across Surrey, and 147 of them are good or better. That's more than nine in ten. Thirty are rated outstanding, seven require improvement and five are inadequate. These counts cover the whole local authority, not only Send, so they describe the pool families here are choosing from, not the village's own report card. Another 194 settings have no published grade yet, and they're left out of those counts rather than assumed good or bad.

Send CofE Primary School is the one carrying the village's name, and for most families it's where the school conversation starts. Ripley Court School is also nearby, in Ripley. No secondary appears on the local list, so the next stage means travelling. The Department for Transport's modelled times, from 2019, put the nearest primary about 8 minutes away by car, 15 by public transport and 18 on foot. The nearest secondary is about 14 minutes by car, 25 by public transport and 55 on foot. The public transport figures date fastest as services change, and a 55-minute walk isn't a plan, so secondary years here usually mean a parent with car keys.

A village primary with a church name is also a reminder that a good local option doesn't come with a guaranteed seat. Admission rules, including any faith criteria, are set school by school, and living nearby isn't the same as getting in. The house price assumes you get in. The allocation letter won't. Check the admissions policy for every school on the shortlist, and last year's offers where they're published, before exchanging on a house bought for a particular school gate. One nearby primary has closed recently, so older maps and listings that point families at it are out of date.

Across the rest of the county, 30 outstanding schools are the part that ends up in property descriptions. The seven that require improvement and five inadequate ones are the part that shows up in admissions appeals. Surrey's ratio is very strong, and in a county like this that makes the competition for the best places fiercer, not gentler.

Schools are Send's clearest strength: the county around it grades almost everything good or better, and the village primary sits on the doorstep. The only real test is admissions, and that's worth passing before you buy, not after.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
