The schools are one of the better reasons to pay Robertsbridge prices. About four in five graded schools across the county are good or better. The village has its own primary and its own secondary. A walk to primary takes under twenty minutes. The house costs a lot, but the school run doesn't.
Ofsted has graded 67 schools and settings across East Sussex, and 54 of those are rated good or better. That's roughly four in every five, and it covers the whole county, not just Robertsbridge. Seven are rated outstanding, seven require improvement and six are inadequate. Another 84 settings have no published grade yet. That tells you they haven't been graded, not that they're poor. Most of the county gets a clean report, and the exceptions exist rather than dominate.
Salehurst Church of England Primary School is the village primary. At secondary level, Robertsbridge Community College carries the village's name, which saves a fair bit of explaining on the application form. The Department for Transport's modelled journey times from 2019 put the nearest primary about 19 minutes' walk away on average, or eight minutes by car. The nearest secondary is about 44 minutes on foot, around 28 by public transport and 11 by car. Plenty of teenagers will treat the walk as optional, and plenty of parents will end up driving.
The surrounding villages widen the choice. Bodiam Church of England Primary School and Staplecross Methodist Primary School serve the smaller settlements nearby, and Darvell School, Marlborough House Vinehall School and Mountfield Heath School also sit in the area. Parents have more options within a short drive than the village's size would suggest, so the Saturday-morning debate is about which school, not whether there's one.
Living next to a school doesn't get your child in. Admissions follow the council's rules and each school's criteria, and buyers who assume the house comes with a place can learn otherwise when the offer letter arrives. Check each school's current admissions arrangements and latest inspection report directly before the sale goes through. Don't rely on an estate agent's phrase like "close to excellent schools", which promises nothing a council has to honour.
For families, the schools are one of Robertsbridge's real strengths: a primary and a secondary in the village, a strong county record behind them, and more options a short drive away.
