Is Newport Pagnell a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Newport Pagnell.

Yes. Newport Pagnell is one of the safer parts of Milton Keynes, and by a wide margin. Recorded crime runs well under the borough's rate. Unemployment is low. Hardly anyone lives in an overcrowded home. The mix of crimes is close to the national one, and the total is much smaller than the borough's.

The police recorded crime in Newport Pagnell at about 59 per 1,000 residents in the year to May 2026, roughly 45% below the Milton Keynes average. That came to 992 recorded crimes over those twelve months. Both figures are published rates and counts for the town's neighbourhoods, and neither comes with a street-by-street breakdown.

Across the whole borough of Milton Keynes, the published rate for the same year was about 107 per 1,000, against Newport Pagnell's 59. The town shares a council with the borough and keeps a crime level of its own. Buyers who see Milton Keynes on the address and assume the borough's rate are reading the wrong line of the table.

Newport Pagnell is a built-up town, with about 4,200 people per square kilometre on average across its neighbourhoods. Unemployment was about 2% at the 2021 census, and about 2% of households were overcrowded. Those figures describe what the neighbourhoods are like. They do not explain the crime rate, and nothing here links one to the other.

The categories line up closely with England and Wales as a whole. Violence and sexual offences made up about 38% of recorded crime here, against about 35% nationally. That heading covers a wide legal range, including common assault where nobody was hurt, and it is the largest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour was about 16% here and about 16% nationally. Public order offences were about 8% against 7%, and criminal damage and arson also about 8% against 7%. Other theft matched the national share at about 7%, and vehicle crime was about 6% against 5%. Newport Pagnell has much less crime than its borough, and in about the same proportions as everywhere else.

What happens after a crime is reported is a separate question, and the answer comes from the force as a whole. Thames Valley Police charges a suspect in about 9% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which put it 37th of 42 forces over the year to May 2026. About 37% of its cases are closed with no suspect identified. Those are force-wide figures covering a large area, and they measure how cases are resolved, not how often crime happens in Newport Pagnell.

Safety is one of Newport Pagnell's real strengths. It has the borough's postcode and much less of the borough's crime.
