What are the schools like in Limpsfield?

For anyone buying or renting in Limpsfield.

Good, and the county's inspection record is the reason. Across Surrey, more than nine in ten graded schools are rated good or better. The village has its own Church of England infant school. The secondary is down the road in Oxted. Around here, parents worry more about the admissions letter than the Ofsted report.

For primary, there's one mainstream state primary with published results in the area, and its pupils averaged 106 in Key Stage 2 maths. With only one school behind it, that number describes a school, not a district. Limpsfield CofE Infant School is the one with the village's name on the gate. Hurst Green Infant School and Holland Junior School are just south, so the infant-then-junior route is common, and parents learn to plan for two sets of school gates. St Mary's CofE Primary School and St Peter's CofE Infant School are also nearby, though a church school's admissions rules can turn a Sunday into part of the application.

For secondary, there's one mainstream state secondary in the area, and its pupils averaged an Attainment 8 score of about 45. That's Oxted School. As with the primary figure, one school means one number, so compare it with other schools' published results before reading too much into it. It's a single school's figure, not a verdict on the area.

Ofsted has graded 147 of the 159 schools and settings it has inspected across Surrey as good or better, which is better than nine in ten. Thirty are outstanding. Seven require improvement and five are inadequate, out of a county's worth of schools. Those counts cover the whole of Surrey, not only Limpsfield, but it's the system every local family's application goes into, and it's in good shape. Settings that haven't yet been given a published grade are left out of the count, not treated as failures.

Living near a school doesn't guarantee a place. Admissions run on each school's own rules, and faith schools, distance-based allocation and sibling priority all apply before your postcode gets any say. Parents who buy a house for a school and never read the admissions policy often find the gap between the two in the spring offer letter. The admissions criteria usually matter more than the estate agent's description.

Limpsfield Grange School is also in the parish. It's a special school for girls with special educational needs, and it's worth knowing about for any family who needs one, since few villages have one.

Schools are one of Limpsfield's clear strengths. The county's record is strong, the local choice is sensible, and the likeliest problem is getting a place.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
