Langford's schools are good, and the local picture backs that up. The village has its own primary, rated good. Almost nine in ten of the area's graded schools are good or better. Only a handful fall short. Langford parents get to spend their worrying on secondary choice.
Across Central Bedfordshire, Ofsted has rated 52 of the council's 59 graded schools as good or outstanding, so almost nine in ten clear the bar. One is outstanding, five require improvement and two are inadequate. Another 43 settings have no published grade yet, so they say nothing in either direction. Those counts cover the whole authority, from market towns to farm villages, and they describe the district Langford is part of, which is a wider picture than the village's own schools.
Langford Village Academy takes children from four to eleven and is part of the Bedfordshire Schools Trust. Ofsted rated it good after a 2024 inspection. The school became a primary in September 2021, when the wider area moved to a two-tier system, and parents who arrived before the change now find their children move up a year earlier than expected. Langford also falls within the catchment of two secondary schools at once, one of them Stratton School. Places at every school here go by the council's published admissions rules, so living in a catchment or close to a gate is a strong position, not a booked seat. Read both schools' oversubscription criteria for the year you need. Being in two catchments at once is the sort of backup that parents in single-catchment villages would gladly pay for, and in Langford it comes with the postcode.
On the Department for Transport's modelled times from 2019, the nearest primary is about an 11-minute walk for the average home. The nearest secondary is about 14 minutes by car or 23 minutes by public transport. On foot it is close to an hour, so the secondary years usually mean a lift or a bus pass. Ivel Valley School & College and the primaries in Biggleswade and the surrounding villages, including Biggleswade Academy and St Andrew's CofE VC Primary School, make up the rest of the nearby picture. The 2019 bus times are the ones most likely to have changed since, as some services have been cut.
Langford's schools are one of its clear strengths: a good village primary, a district where good is the norm, and two secondaries to choose between where most villages get one.
