What are the schools like in Innsworth?

For anyone buying or renting in Innsworth.

Innsworth's schools are good, and the primary years are the easy part. Primary results around here clear the expected standard. The village has its own infant and junior schools, a short walk from most homes. The secondaries are further out and post solid results. Nearly nine in ten of the county's graded schools are rated good or better.

There are six mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils averaged a Key Stage 2 maths score of about 104, comfortably above the expected standard. Innsworth Infant School and Innsworth Junior School carry the village's name and do the bulk of the local work, split across two schools in the old-fashioned way, so a child changes uniform at seven without changing streets. The Department for Transport's 2019 modelling put the typical walk to a primary at about seven minutes. Longlevens Infant School and Longlevens Junior School, on the Gloucester side, are the other pair families here tend to weigh up. Because the infant and junior schools here are separate, ask the council whether going to Innsworth Infant gives a child any priority for Innsworth Junior, since that answer decides whether you apply once or twice.

The two mainstream state secondaries in the area recorded an Attainment 8 score of about 50, weighted by pupil numbers. Churchdown School and Chosen Hill School are on the list of secondaries around here, and Gloucester's own secondaries widen the choice further. The same 2019 modelling put the typical secondary at about a 27-minute walk, or about 20 minutes by public transport. A child who strolled to the infant school in seven minutes finds out at eleven that Innsworth's schools stop at the edge of the village, and the bus starts there.

Gloucestershire County Council's area holds 156 schools with a published Ofsted grade, and 136 of them are rated good or outstanding, close to nine in ten. Nine are outstanding, 19 require improvement and one is inadequate. Places at any of them are handed out under the council's published admissions rules, so living near a school on this page is no promise of a seat in it, however short the walk. Gloucestershire's inspectors grade schools; they have never once graded a front garden for proximity.

Innsworth's schools are one of its real strengths, solid at primary, decent at secondary and backed by a county where most schools pass inspection well. The weak point is the walk at eleven, and that is a bus timetable problem, not a classroom one.
