Hounslow's schools are the part of town nobody has to make excuses for. Every school the inspectors have graded in the borough came out good or better. Eight are outstanding. None was rated as needing improvement. For parents here, the worry is getting a place, because none of the options is a bad school.
There are five mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils average about 107 in the Key Stage 2 maths assessment. Hounslow Town Primary School carries the town's name, and Grove Road Primary School, Alexandra Primary School and Wellington Primary School are among the others. The Department for Transport's 2019 model puts the nearest primary about eight minutes' walk from the average home. With a primary school that close to most front doors, families here have little use for the school run by car.
There are three mainstream state secondaries in the area, and their pupils average about 54 on Attainment 8, the government's score across a pupil's best eight GCSE results. Lampton Academy, St Mark's Catholic School on Bath Road and Lift Kingsley make up that group, and the nearest secondary is about twelve minutes' walk away on the same 2019 model. The school at Lampton began life as a grammar school.
Ofsted has graded 39 schools across the London Borough of Hounslow, and all 39 are good or outstanding, with eight of them outstanding. Not one is rated as requiring improvement or inadequate. The borough has 25 more settings that have no published grade yet. That is a record for the whole borough, with Hounslow's own schools counted alongside everyone else's.
Strong grades still don't settle who gets in. Hounslow council allocates places under its published admissions rules, and a faith school such as St Mark's applies its own criteria as well, so a house near the gates doesn't secure a place inside them. Read the council's oversubscription criteria for the specific school you want, and check how far places reached in recent years. Parents who set their heart on one school and turn down the rest are turning down schools Ofsted graded just as highly.
Schools are one of Hounslow's real strengths. Across the borough, the inspection record has no weak entries, so families can spend their energy on admissions instead of on avoiding a bad school.
