Is Halling, Kent a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Halling, Kent.

Yes. Halling is one of the calmer corners of Medway. Crime runs well below the local average. Unemployment barely shows up. Overcrowded homes are rare. Nobody moves here for the nightlife, and the crime figures look like it.

Police.uk published a rate of 60 crimes per 1,000 residents for Halling in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, roughly 44% below the Medway average. That rate came from 308 recorded crimes over the same twelve months. For a village, that's a quiet year's policing.

Medway as a whole ran at about 108 crimes per 1,000 residents over the same period, so the two figures sit side by side at about 60 and about 108. Buyers who rule out Halling because of a Medway-wide crime headline are reading the wrong number.

The setting helps explain the figures without accounting for them. Halling averages about 2,490 people per square kilometre, unemployment stood at about 2% at the last census and about 2% of homes count as overcrowded. That's a settled, working, uncrowded place. None of those figures causes a low crime rate, but they describe the sort of area where one tends to turn up.

The mix needs handling carefully, because the totals are small enough that a handful of incidents moves a share by several points. Violence and sexual offences made up about 34% of recorded crime, against about 35% nationally, so Halling sits roughly at the norm. That category covers a wide legal range, down to common assault without injury, and it's the largest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour made up about 24% against about 16% nationally, and drugs offences about 7% against about 4%. Shoplifting ran at about 9% against 8%, criminal damage and arson at about 8% against 7%, and other theft at about 6% against 7%. On a base this small, those gaps are one year's snapshot, not a settled picture. A few repeat complaints about the same group of teenagers would be enough to produce them. The anti-social behaviour share will be the figure that shows up in the parish Facebook group.

After a crime is reported, Kent Police charges a suspect in about 16% of cases across the force area, against about 12% nationally. That puts it sixth of 42 forces. About 36% of Kent cases are closed with no suspect identified, which is the straight answer to "will they catch whoever did it". Those are force-wide figures and say nothing about how safe Halling itself is. They describe what happens after the fact, not how often it happens.

Safety is one of Halling's real strengths, with crime well under the Medway rate, and the few blemishes in the mix too small to hold against it.
