Findon is safe, the sort of safe where a stranger's car parked overnight gets noticed. Crime runs at about half the Arun rate. A couple of hundred recorded crimes a year covers the whole village. Almost nobody is out of work. The biggest risk here is to anyone who came looking for drama.
Police.uk records put Findon's published crime rate at about 47 per 1,000 residents over the twelve months from June 2025 to May 2026, roughly 48% below the Arun average. That comes to 209 recorded crimes across the year, for the whole village and every category. Buyers who spend an evening scrolling the crime map before a viewing will find very little to scroll.
Set side by side, the two rates tell the story. Findon sits at about 47 per 1,000, while Arun as a whole runs at about 90 per 1,000 over the same period. Arun takes in busier coastal towns with late licences and town-centre car parks, and its average carries them. Findon carries a church, a conservation area and the Downs, and nothing in that list produces much of a crime report.
The texture of the place fits the numbers. Population density averages about 1,139 people per square kilometre across the village's statistical areas, unemployment is about 2%, and around 1% of households are overcrowded. None of that causes low crime on its own. It does describe a settled, spread-out place where most people have somewhere to be in the morning and room to be there, which is a long way from what an estate agent means when they call a town centre lively.
The mix needs handling with care, because the totals are small enough that a handful of incidents moves any share by several points. With that caveat, violence and sexual offences make up about 35% of Findon's recorded crime, against about 35% nationally, which is no different from anywhere else. That category is a broad legal grouping that includes common assault without injury, and it tops the list almost everywhere, so the headline sounds far worse than the reality. Anti-social behaviour sits at about 17% against 16% nationally. Other theft runs at about 12% against 7%, public order about 9% against 7%, and criminal damage and arson about 8% against 7%. Burglary stands out most, at about 9% of Findon's crimes against about 4% nationally. On a base this small, that's a reason to fit a decent lock and check the insurance, not a reason to call it a burglary hotspot. A few break-ins in a quiet year will do that to a percentage.
What happens after a report is a separate question, and it's answered at force level, not village level. Sussex Police charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally, over the twelve months to May 2026, which places it 35th of 42 forces in England and Wales. About 48% of cases across the force close with no suspect identified. That's the honest answer to "will they catch them", and the answer is often no. It says nothing about how often crime happens in Findon, which is rarely. It says a fair amount about what to expect if it does.
Safety is one of Findon's real strengths, and the numbers leave very little room to argue. The crime that does happen is the ordinary rural sort, and there isn't much of it.
